Protecting Global IP: Our Firm Represents Warner Bros. in Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Against Shufersal
Adv. Chagay Netzer and Adv. Roey Drizon, of our firm’s legal team, are representing DC Comics, a subsidiary of the global media giant Warner Bros. Discovery, in a copyright and trademark infringement lawsuit filed against the Shufersal retail chain.
The lawsuit centers on the unauthorized use of the iconic characters Superman and Supergirl in a commercial campaign broadcast on TikTok. According to the claim, Shufersal produced and distributed marketing content based on Warner’s intellectual property to promote its supermarket chain without obtaining the necessary licenses or permissions.
As the owner of the world’s most recognizable comic book characters (including Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman), Warner Bros. holds the exclusive right to commercially exploit these characters and their associated trademarks. Every original product and visual media asset produced by the company carries a specific copyright notice. The unauthorized commercial use of these assets constitutes a direct violation of the brand’s reputation and market value. The claim asserts that Warner Bros. never granted Shufersal permission to utilize these characters for any promotional or advertising purposes.
Protecting intellectual property is a critical pillar for international corporations operating in Israel.
